Sunday, Sept 28th Volunteer Opportunity Is a Day at the Beach!

Please mark your calendar and bring the whole family:

Sunday, September 28th from 10am - 2 pm
Connecticut Fund for the Environment's "Picking Up the Pieces on Connecticut's Beaches"
Bluff Point State Park in Groton

I've spoken with contact/host MaryEllen Mateleska of Mystic Aquarium, 860.572.5955, ext. 156. She is pleased to welcome as many CommunityThinkers as are available. (Last year there were Coast Guard cadets & Boy Scouts that brought the number to 165!) Volunteers will be asked to fill out a liability form on site, and will be provided:
- gloves
- hand sanitizer
- trash bags
- water
- snacks

*And/or would we like to coordinate a group picnic or trek to local pizza in celebration...?!

If you've not been to Bluff Point before, you're in for a treat! There are great jogging & mountain-bike paths (leashed pet-friendly), quiet hike- or paddle-in beaches, fishing, a boat launch.... www.ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?a=2716&q=325178

Directions:
• Coming from I-95 North: Take exit 88. Turn right onto SR 117 South. Turn right at the end onto Route 1 South. Take a left at the first light onto Depot Road. Park entrance is at the end of the road.

Amigurumi Stuffi

Patient guidance is being provided for young and, ahem, less young alike. The experienced and moderately motivated could surely catch up/surpass quickly. There seems to be extra yarn & hooks around, but in general, please self-supply:
- 25grams or less (small skein?) of wool/yarn in at least 2 colors
- 17mm (about 5/8”) safety or googly eyes (Jennifer has a large bag of colorful button substitutes, if there's interest.)
- a 3.5mm, or size G crochet hook
- a little stuffing!
- needle & thread
- a little spare time & patience
*optional idea* key chain accoutrements to be able to attach to your new little friend to bring him/her everywhere!
If you have extra of any of the above, particularly the time & patience bit, please bring to share with friends!

That Crafty Gina says:
"I have a few extra hooks for those that don't, as well as a huge bag of eco-stuffing for everyone."
