Harkness Cancelled

I'm sorry, but the weather is not cooperating. I think it's best to cancel the Harkness Halloween gathering. Susan and I tried to find alternate locations in Waterford, but no dice.

If anyone would like to propose an alternate activity, I am happy to post the details here. Please email me at pambri@sbcglobal.net

Are people up for a Harkness Picnic next Tuesday, minus the costumes, weather permitting?

Jam Band

Anyone interested in a Jam Band session before Thanksgiving?
I am available on November, 6th or 13th. This time we will probably have it inside!

Halloween

The Waterford Library does not allow costume parties in any of their community rooms.

The weather forecast for tomorrow (Tuesday) calls for rain. If it turns out to be a light drizzle, hearty souls can still meet at Harkness at 11. Heavy rain will cancel.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Hallowe'en Get Together 11am Tue Oct. 28 at Harkness Park in Waterford

Come in costume. We will have a Costume Catwalk complete with prizes
for all. Older kids can be the judges. Please bring along any
Halloween-related activities you may have.

Rain location is still under consideration. We can probably get a room
at the Waterford Library, but we won't know that until Tuesday
morning. If it's raining, I'll call the library and try to reserve a
room. Please look for updates on the Community Think blog.

Hope to see everyone Tuesday!

Pam

Veterans Day Meeting

Hello Everyone. The museums I called are all closed on Veterans Day. If the group would like a space to meet, I have permission for us to use the New London Friends Meetinghouse on that day. There is a front room with chairs (could be used for the older kids' book discussion?) and a back room with a couple tables and chairs. There is also a kitchen. No hot water at this time but a coffee maker and electric hot water machine are there along with microwave, refrigerator and range.

Perhaps we could meet for "tea and conversation" on that day. Another idea: maybe we could bring our outgrown books and have a small book sale to benefit a community service. Maybe bring food for the local pantry and donate that along with the proceeds from the books?

What does the group think?

The Meetinghouse is located at 176 Oswegatchie Road in Waterford. Parking there is a little tight but there is some on the street parking near the Meetinghouse and within a short walking distance.

Comm. Think Costume Catwalk

For the Tuesday of Halloween week (Oct. 28), I was thinking we could have a Costume Catwalk at Harkness Park in Waterford. The kids will get an extra chance to wear their costumes, and to display all the skills they learned in Dramatic Games! Bigger kids could come up with superlatives for each other and for the younger kids. Spookiest costume, glitziest costume, funniest costume, etc. Everyone gets a certificate with their superlative written on it.

We can meet at eleven at one of the tables near the parking lot. Bring a lunch. Maybe a treat to share. Halloween activities if you have any. Play afterwards.

Additional ideas welcome.

Rain location under consideration. Probably Waterford Library.

CommunityThink Winter Session Schedule Ideas?

October 14th is already the last day of the CommunityThink Fall session at Groton Public Library! We have 6 more days total at the Library in the June-to-June calendar they employ. Assuming a "Yes" on continuing our little project, how would we like to structure it?

- Should we look to starting up again in January, February or other?
- Would we like to keep the same day, Tuesdays, or shift to a different one?
- Would we like to keep six consecutive weeks OR
- Would we like to try every other week?
- If we do alternating weeks, would we like to add other options like Bowling, Roller Skating, Mini-Golf, Soup Kitchen, etc in the off-weeks?
- Are there inspired volunteers who would like to lead a workshop/series of workshops/class/club?
Kids, Parents, Grandparents, Friends, All-hands, Countrymen, lend us your ideas!!
